Baby Clothes Cotton Fabric Is A Great Choice
By: Anne Francis

One of the most important considerations when selecting baby clothes is the fabric. While we all want to dress our babies in clothes that are cute, stylish and fit well, we sometimes overlook the most basic element -- how will these feel against my baby?s skin.

This is where cotton really shines. First, cotton is soft. Of course, like anything, there are many different kinds of cotton and many different grades. When buying baby clothes made with cotton, it is good to consider the type of cotton. 100% combed cotton is one of the particularly softer varieties, for example.

Second, cotton breaths. Babies, especially infants, need to be kept warm, but they also need clothes with good ventilation. Synthetic fabrics can often times accomplish keeping a baby warm, but since they do not breath, babies can perspire. Cotton is a breathable fabric and therefore keeps babies comfortable while keeping them warm.

Third, cotton is absorbent. In fact, cotton can absorb up to one fifth of its own weight before it begins to feel damp to your baby.

Fourth, cotton does not generate static electricity. The ends of cotton fibers are wound very tightly which helps prevent the build up of static electricity. We all know what it feels like to get a static shock. Imagine how this feels to a little baby. Cotton helps prevent static shock compared to synthetic fabrics.

Fifth, cotton is a hypoallergenic fabric. If your baby has asthma, cotton can be a good choice.

Finally, cotton is a natural fabric. Unlike synthetic fabrics, cotton is biodegradable and a renewable resource. So in addition to your baby feeling good wearing cotton fabrics, you can feel good about buying them.
