The Bridge to Braille: Reading and School Success for the Young Blind Child
by Carol Castellano, Dawn Kosman

This book gave practical and simple suggestions
Reviewer: A reader

I found this book to be useful in my work as a paraprofessional in work with blind children. The tips on organizing the blind students materials were clear and precise. I found it fascinating to learn what the parts of a braillewriter are. This book is a simple but essential resource for parents and educators working with young blind students.

Braille for the Sighted (Beginning Braille)
by S. Harold Collins, Jane Schneider (Illustrator), Kathy Kifer (Illustrator)

Note the book's subtitle: "Beginning Braille"
Reviewer: Sean Burke (Ketchikan, Alaska, United States)

As the other reviews note, this is a fun little book that teaches you the alphabet and numbers in (grade-1) Braille, with puzzles showing words in isolation.
But if you buy this, you should bear in mind that that doesn't go very far at all in teaching you to read the grade-2 Braille you'd find in the real world, which is full of contractions and punctuation using dot patterns that this book doesn't even mention.

If you are sighted and want to learn to read Braille, see the book "Handbook for Learning to Read Braille by Sight" or possibly even the book "Instruction Manual for Braille Transcribing", and also look around www.brl.org and www.loc.gov/nls/
